Spindependence – Collective
In just under two weeks, four members of Creating Space are taking part in Cambridge Open Studios. We are busy planning our show and getting very excited to be showing our work to a wider audience. We are Lyn Scott, Jayne Norris, Bernie Witchalls, and Hazel Shaw (that’s me). We are all spinners, but have different spinning interests and pursue other artistic endeavours. Here are some of the things we do (this list is not exhaustive!):
Lyn is our instigator and organiser, without whom there would be no Creating Space and no Spindependence – Collective. She’s a whizz with indigo dyeing. On yarn and on fabric she produces magic in blue! (I suspect that it’s the combination of the science and art that she really enjoys).
Jayne produces beautiful felted pieces, from gossamer nuno-felted scarves to felted pots. She is also a print maker working onto paper and fabric, using screen and block printing.
Bernie is our silk expert. She dyes, spins, weaves and paints, all using silk. She produces a range of pieces including silk scarves and silk-painted pictures.
Finally, Hazel spins big, bold and colourful art yarns, and turns them into knitted and woven scarves and shawls. However, she’s currently exploring very small hand-spun and woven pictures.
Our working studio will be open from 11am – 6pm at Harlton Village Hall, Coach Drive, Harlton, CB23 1EN on the first and second weekends in July (1st & 2nd July and 8th & 9th July). We are no 137 in the Cambridge Open Studios’ guide. Come and see us!
